Obscure Eastern European History

Some topics, like history of language, are difficult to research.

Eastern European history has had less exposure than Western European or US history.

It was easy enough to find histories about Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian - both general web sources and more scholarly sources. And even the upcoming article on the history of Hungarian language had a fair amount of general resources. However, information on other Eastern European languages is scarce. Even university data base searches are of little help.

Some of the best information is contained in print books. Unfortunately, they are expensive, unwieldy, and sometimes just plain unavailable. However, if you are interested in learning more about languages (not only Eastern European languages), Kenneth Katzner's book, The Languages of the World, is a nice resource with clear language trees and other information.

Incidentally, Kenneth Katzner's English-Russian Russian-English Dictionary is a staple among students of Russian; I highly recommend it.
