A mansion formerly belonging to a very affluent family, the Sheremetyevs, was being renovated in Moscow when the bodies were discovered. The BBC article seems to imply that the bodies belong to opponents of the Soviet regime, a supposition which isn't far fetched at all. Hundreds of thousands of people were disposed of due to actual or alleged disagreement about the practices of the Soviet regime.
Interestingly, though, this seems to be the appropriate time to unearth and announce the discovery of bodies from victims of of the Soviets. Earlier this week, the bodies from two executed Romanovs were said to have been identified as Grand Duchess Maria and Tsarevich Alexei. Russia is becoming more willing to address the past and admit that the Soviet period was one that was devastating to so many of its people.
However, the fact that those who have been in power want to remain in power doesn't change. Putin has his eye on the position of Prime Minister. This ex-KGB agent has dictatorial intentions and lots of secrets to hide. Until the KGB Dynasty ends in Russia, real healing and change won't begin to take place.
